A.G.M. and Presentation night November 2016
The Club had its A.G.M. on Monday 7th November in the National Foresters Club in Belfast. Venues for 2017 were talked over and agreed. This annual meeting is the only occasion that rule changes can be discussed or modified, and we talked over some issues that had arisen in 2016. All was resolved and some new rules and procedures were added to the club constitution. This year we nominated Ballycastle as the venue for the “Tom Hamill Trophy” for 2017 season.
The committee was stood down and proposals were taken for the 2017 committee. The previous members were re-elected with no objections.
We then had the presentations of our club Trophies. First trophy of the night was the “Tom Hamill Memorial Cup”, presented annually to the club member taking the biggest fish caught from a nominated venue. The venue for 2016 was Kincaslagh, and Martin Buchanan won the trophy with a Ling of 7lb 8oz.
Next up was the “Don Ross Shield”, presented annually to the biggest fish of the year, caught by a club member on any club outing. This year it was also won by Martin Buchanan with a 25lb Tope, caught in Red Bay.
Finally, we had our “Master Angler Trophy”, awarded to the angler with the most points won in the club competition. This was won by Alan Buchanan, with a winning total of 85 points. Alan narrowly beat runner up Martin Buchanan by just 10 points on the last day to secure his name on the trophy.
On 28th July 2013, two weeks after the club record was broken, Alan Campbell smashed the record with a massive 186lb Skate. The fish was caught in Ballycastle and took over 1 hour 30 minutes to land.
