Ballycastle 19th June 2021

This was our 1st trip to Ballycastle this year on board Sean McKays Lady Lynda. 6 members attended

The weather was sunny and the sea was flat calm when we started off. Sean took us to catch some mackerel first of all but warned they had been scarce. We hit a good batch straight away with some big lumps of mackerel landed. Plenty of bait and mackerel to take home for the guys.

We were to fish the pinnacles today and steamed out after filling our boxes with bait. Conditions were perfect but the fishing was slow all day and hard work in 140m of water.

The first fish landed was a small male Spur dog for Marty Buchanan which would be the first of many on the boat that day. John McCourt landed a decent 5lb Pollock followed by a 5.5lb pollock for Mark Buchanan.

The Spurs came regularly with the Marty landing a 6lb fish then also a Pollock of 6.25lb. Stephen Montgomery took the first ling of the day with a 3lb  fish amongst the usual spurs.

Glen Murphy took a nice Spur of 6.5lb which would win the pool at the end of the day. A few more pollock for Alan Buchanan and a 5lb ling for Marty rounded off the fishing on that mark.

We tried a few drifts over a wreck for the larger Spurs with nothing caught and called it a day.
